Alarm.com, ConnectSense Smart Home Products Bring Temp Control & Siri To The Living Room

Some of the latest smart home products provide more precise control over room temperature and deliver Siri voice control of lamps and appliances. Alarm.com launched $25 wireless temperature sensors that can be used with its $149 smart thermostat to choose a temperature level for a specific room. The ConnectSense smart outlet features two electrical sockets that enable users to monitor and control devices plugged into them via the ConnectSense app on their Apple mobile device and via the devices Siri voice control feature.

Alarm.com Smart Home Security Water Solution Detects Leaks

Alarm.com sensors detect leaks, send notification to homeowner, shut off water. The solution also provides low temperature threshold alerts when heating malfunctions and pipes are at risk of bursting. Alarm.com has expanded its Smart Home Security solutions with a water solution to detect leaks, alert homeowners and proactively respond to reduce damage.

Smart home meets smartwatch: Apple Watch automation apps

During Apple’s Spring Forward event for the Apple Watch, apps that work with the device were also introduced. At the time, the selection was limited and only three home automation companies had apps for the Apple Watch which included Lutron Electronics Co., Inc.’s Caséta Wireless, Honeywell Lyric, and Alarm.com, Inc. But now that consumer interest is growing, more smart home apps have been added to the list.

Icontrol Beats Alarm.com in Key Patent Claims for Remote Security & Home Automation

Icontrol Networks, which claims to have the “most widely-distributed interactive security and home automation platform in the industry,” has handed arch-rival Alarm.com (Nasdaq: ALRM) a major defeat in patent land. The USPTO invalidated several key claims in Alarm.com’s patent No. 8,350,694 (‘694), issued January 8, 2013 (filed in 2010), concerning the role of mobile phones in a remotely managed smart-home ecosystem – claims that could have universal implications for remote home monitoring and management.
